D 3 March to 15 August 2011, MAXXI - National Art Museum of the XXI Century - Rome strengthens its international thanks to strong synergy with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the major American museums, and brings America's most important exhibition dedicated to Michelangelo Pistoletto , recognized in Europe as one of the greatest artists living in the United States and considered a forerunner of the sensitive contemporary artistic practices of participation.
The exhibition, curated by Carlos Basualdo, will present over 100 works from private collections, both American and European.
Reflecting on the transition from the early portraits of the mid-fifties to the collective actions of the late Sixties and early Seventies, the public can follow the path of artistic Pistoletto, from rigorous inquiry into the representation of himself to the development of creative collaborations that have characterized his research.
The exhibition will also include a section on Plexiglas, which works since 1964 have advanced the conceptual and a section on Rags, sculptures, designed in the late sixties and the beginning of the seventies, are testimony to the research related to Arte Povera.
